A while back, I collaborated with a composer who was working on a score for a film "The Other Man", about FW de Klerk, South Africa’s last Apartheid president and the man who unbanned the ANC and released Nelson Mandela.
He needed a few scenes with an exotic charango sound for ambience and I happened to have a charango I purchased in Peru. It's kind of like an Andean mandolin.
"The Other man" is a documentary that offers fascinating insights into why a man who came from a conservative Afrikaner background, took such a bold step. This documentary also probes the relationship between De Klerk and Mandela.
